Welcome Weeks for first semester students // September 1 to October 10, 2026

Are you starting your first semester at the University of Graz and don't yet know which way is up and which way is down? Take part in the Welcome Weeks!

Please note that most events are held in German (see German website for info). Events listed below are suitable for English-speaking students / international students.

Preparing for the start of your studies

Better safe than sorry. There are a lot of new things coming your way and we're here to help! With online info sessions and lectures on campus, you can get in the perfect mood for the start of your studies.

Arriving on campus

There's a lot to see! Take your time to explore the university and immerse yourself in student life in Graz. We have the ideal program for you!

Visit us at the Infodesk and get the programme and your free ticket for the first semester party. We will help you if you have any questions, can't find places or are looking for programme items.

Participate in select Welcome Week events and collect stickers in your youni app! A digital sticker appears in your collection pass under “My Badges.”

Here’s how it works:

Start the semester off on a sporty note! Enjoy an hour-long programme by Mike and Birgit from SWEET SPOT Yoga in the assembly hall.
Please bring your own mats (or towels)!

Do you like running or would you like to start running and get to know people?

At the SocialRunClub Graz you start together with other running enthusiasts at the campus and run a distance of 4-5 km. Afterwards there's free refreshments!

Anyone can take part, not just students! The run starts and finishes on campus.

Take a look behind the scenes of a classical concert at the Musikverein Graz - including a rehearsal / concert!

Experience an orchestra rehearsal / concert in the Stefaniensaal of the Graz Philharmonic, featuring 19th-century Romantic music from Norway and Germany. Featuring star pianist Rudolf Buchbinder.
During the backstage tour, you’ll explore the historic spaces both on and off stage at Congress Graz. (Languages for the backstage tour: German and English)

Play a round of table tennis with your new fellow students, friends or people you've never met before at the university! Refreshments included!

The modalities of play depend on the number of participants and will be announced at the tournament. Anyone who wants to play must sign up on the list on-site by 1 pm. There are vouchers and print credit to be won!

Location: Table tennis tables (between Universitätsplatz 3a and Universitätsplatz 2) - Only in good weather.

Wednesday, 30 September, 1 - 5 pm

Would you like to play table tennis just for fun? The table tennis tables are available around the clock - you can borrow bats and balls for free from the University Library lending desk.

Enjoy a great movie in the lecture hall - free of charge and with snacks! Please bring your own drink.

Monsters University

Ever since Mike Glotzkowski was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a frightener at Monster AG. Now he can actually study horror science at Monster University. There he meets James P. Sullivan, who comes from a famous family of horrors and is a true natural. But the first semester doesn't quite go to plan...

Celebrate first! Let's be honest, as a first-semester student you don't just want to get all the information about the start of your studies, you also want to celebrate it. The best way to do this is at the Radio Soundportal freshers' party in the PPC! You can get your free ticket at the Infodesk starting September 23. While stocks last!

It’s for all queer people ages 18 and up who want to expand their circle of friends.
Whether you’re new to town or just want to meet new people - this event is perfect for you if you’d like to connect with others in the community in a relaxed setting.

On-campus welcome event

Everything you need to know for a successful start!

This English-language information session will take place on 23 September 2026 from 10.30 am to approximately 1.30 pm in HS 01.15 at the University of Graz.

During this event, you will be given a concise overview of:

  • studying at the University of Graz and the student services available
  • key points of contact
  • important organisational and administrative steps at the start of your studies
  • living in Graz (accommodation, public transport, leisure activities, the student community)
  • Campus tour

You will also have the chance to meet other international students and ask the Welcome Centre team your questions directly.

Language of the event: English
Target group: international students on English-taught Master’s programmes – but international Bachelor’s and PhD students are also welcome!
Registration: Participation is free of charge, but you must register by 16 September 2026! All registered participants will receive a welcome bag on the day, containing useful information and a few small gifts to help them get off to a smooth start with their studies.

A joint event with the Welcome Center of TU Graz! There will be free ice cream for international students joining.

Please note: the event will be cancelled in case of rain.
